The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t had as big of an offseason as their AFC West rivals, but free agency isn’t over just yet. The Chiefs are looking into making an addition at cornerback, either by trading for James Bradberry of the New York Giants or signing free agent Stephon Gilmore, per Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.

New Giants general manager Joe Schoen said at the NFL Combine that he’s “open to everything” when it comes to trading away potential starters. While that quote came in response to a question about star running back Saquon Barkley, there were rumblings about Bradberry as well. According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, in surveying sources at the combine, the consensus trade value for the cornerback was reportedly a third-round pick.

The former Carolina Panthers second-round pick has spent the past two seasons with the Giants, and made the Pro Bowl in 2020. This past season, he recorded 47 combined tackles, 17 passes defensed and a career-high four interceptions. Bradberry is due $13.4 million in base salary in 2022, per Spotrac, while the Chiefs currently have the fourth-most cap space in the NFL thanks to the Tyreek Hill trade with $23,274,118 at their disposal, per Over the Cap.

The Chiefs being interested in Gilmore is something that has been reported by others. NFL Media’s Jeffri Chadiha tweeted on Thursday that Kansas City would like his price to come down. The five-time Pro Bowler is seen by CBS Sports as the best available free agent on the market. Gilmore spent the 2021 campaign with the Panthers after being traded away from the New England Patriots, and while he played in just eight games due to injury, he made another Pro Bowl after recording two interceptions and two passes defensed.
