Michigan football’s 2022 recruiting class loses Belleville LB Aaron Alexander

After receiving 22 signed letters of intent on the first day of the early signing period, Michigan football had just two outstanding commits who hadn’t confirmed their future: four-star pass rusher Kevonte Henry and three-star linebacker Aaron Alexander.

The former posted on Twitter the night before the signing period opened to say he would be waiting until February to make his decision. The latter, who played at nearby Belleville, remained quiet on Wednesday but decommitted from the Wolverines on Thursday afternoon.

“With great thought, prayer, and due to events that have transpired, I have decided to decommit from the University of Michigan,” Alexander wrote in a social media post. “I want to thank the UofM (sic) family for showing unconditional love and support, as well as Coach Clinkscale, Coach Bellamy, Coach McDonald (sic), and the staff as a whole who believed in me and provided me an opportunity to play for them. With that being said, my recruitment is 100% open!!!”

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Alexander was rated outside the top 1,000 prospects nationally and outside the top 100 players at his position. He ranked No. 26 in the state of Michigan, according to the 247Sports Composite.

U-M signed three players in the 2022 class who share Alexander’s position: four-star inside linebacker Jimmy Rolder, three-star inside linebacker Deuce Spurlock and three-star inside/outside hybrid linebacker Micah Pollard.
