New Ohio State QB Quinn Ewers debuts his first NIL endorsement deal

Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers has his first endorsement deal. The newly reclassified No. 1 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle released a 45-second advertisement on his Twitter page for Holy Kombucha, a Texas-based drinks company. Holy Kombucha, which is also partnering with Hope Squad for mental health and suicide prevention programs, was interested in signing Ewers according to a report from Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports in late July.

Clearly, the interest was reciprocal. Ewers can now make money off his name, image and likeness — a driving force behind his reclassification to the Class of 2021 and signing with Ohio State. The country’s No. 1 overall prospect from Texas high school powerhouse Southlake Carroll announced on Aug. 2 that he would be graduating a year early and enrolling with the Buckeyes during preseason camp.

Reclassifying isn’t unprecedented, but the new pursuit of NIL deals is, and it adds an extra layer to Ewers’ decision. He enters camp with a heated battle to replace Justin Fields already underway among C.J. Stroud, Kyle McCord and Jack Miller — the first two of which were also one-time five-star recruits. Ewers’ earning power simply as a blue-chip recruit is high. How that develops during his time at Ohio State will be a story to watch.

You can watch Ewers’ video below:

Ewers arrives at Ohio State with a bunch of fanfare and recruiting rankings that are comparable with Trevor Lawrence. His numbers were absurd. He threw for 6,445 yards, 73 touchdowns and only eight interceptions during his final two seasons of high school football despite missing six games during the 2020 season. He also added 701 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground over the last two seasons.
